Department of Internal Medicine, Angiology and Geriatrics
The main task of the Department is comprehensive diagnostics in the field of Internal Medicine and Angiology. We provide conservative treatment and rehabilitation of patients with vascular diseases of the peripheral vessels, mainly atherosclerosis of the lower limbs.
Additionally, patients requiring surgical treatment are qualified and prepared for vascular surgery and endovascular procedures (e.g. angioplasty of the peripheral arteries, with possible stenting) which are performed in the Regional Department of Vascular Surgery and Angiology of our Hospital.
A unique feature of our Department is an interdisciplinary approach to the patient, implemented through comprehensive diagnostics, effective treatment and thoughtful medical and nursing care.
Since 1st December 2014, the Department also provides specialist geriatric services and comprehensive medical care for patients over 60 years of age. Patients are treated based on the standards of geriatric care, with particular emphasis on the problem of multiple morbidities in old age, as well as disorders typical of old age (dementia, osteoarthritis, falls, pressure ulcers). Our main task is to restore the optimal physical, mental and social condition, and to improve mobility in order to ensure self-reliance of the elderly patient in terms of self-service and to delay disability, and thus improve the quality of life of our patients.
The Department runs the Outpatient Cardiology Clinic and Geriatric Outpatient Clinic. It has fully equipped diagnostic laboratories (Echocardiography, Holter tests, ECG, stress tests).
We also treat patients with other internal medicine diseases (hypertension, ischemic heart disease, diabetes, circulatory failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, gastrointestinal diseases).
The Department also conducts educational activities (for patients, families and legal guardians responsible for supervision over treatment) and rehabilitation.
Health of our patients is in the hands of the qualified staff, a team of vascular disease specialists – angiologists, cardiologists, geriatricians, internal medicine specialists and an experienced nursing team. Our medical staff actively participates in professional conferences, systematically improving their knowledge and qualifications. The Department is accredited by the Ministry of Health to specialize in internal medicine diseases.
Spacious patient rooms in light pastel colors, a greater number of rooms with separate sanitary facilities and modern equipment of the Department ensure safety and high comfort of stay. In the 36-bed Department, there are 4 intensive care stations used to provide assistance in life-threatening situations.
Under an agreement with the National Health Fund, annually nearly 1.500 patients are hospitalized at the Department of Internal Medicine, Angiology and Geriatrics.
